Wet is a new third person action game brought to us by Bethesda Softworks.
Previously responsible for Action RPG Series The Elder Scrolls aswell as the most recent incarnation of the Fallout series.
Wet takes some nice ideas in the way of seemless gun and swordplay mixed in with a cenematic twist of acrobatics and slow motion or bullet time. The closest representation of this would be a cross between Devil May Cry and Max Payne or John Woo’s Stranglehold.
The art style is very much reminiscent of the latter although includes a gritty film reel effect, unfortunatley this doesn’t add to the experience as much as it detracts from the actual targets on screen.
Levels are mapped decently with assortments of tables, boxes, walls and poles to be utilised although it very much seems you are led to one specific route to tackle a problem even with all the skills on offer.
The seemless nature promised also falls short of the mark at this stage with quirky controls that do not mesh moves together when compared to the fluidity of games like Devil May Cry or Prince of Persia, this game would benefit from several animation frames to allow a dive to roll into a slide an so on.
In addition the main character also seems to have selective memory depending on the action, while jumping only guns are available and wall running or sword attacks cannot be linked into this. Then while walking only one of the two guns can be shot at half the speed it can when in bullet time slow motion
